In the period of early November we celebrate and also remember the importance of the Rastafari Trod. In that are the prayers and meditations that come forward in the art. In this time there are lots of reflections and conclusive gratitude. In the heights of discipline and respect, in accordance with what we have been taught, a simple good feeling to know we have seen HIM, Emperor Haile Selassie I. There is something different and astounding about those who have seen the Face of Jah and know it, those who heard the Word of Jah and obeyed. How Great it is to see ourselves in HIM, and HIM in Us. We have been called on a journey to learn about His Imperial Majesty for the sake of our own well being and humanity. Those who stand for the King of Kings must also be noted, for when they do so with such Zeal, that the Earth is changed and altered by a frequency of revelation, 24/7 that sound and being becomes a reality that alters the collective. Somewhere at any minute of the day, Bob Marley or Vaughn Benjamin’s voice echoes and thunders without cease. In so, we are reminded of the days of old… of the apostles that have their own life that changed the world, the importance of the King and His Christ, and also those who spread and suffered for the Word, so that we know it. Give thanks for all the bringers, those carrying on the potent reminder that the music is the medicine. Whether speaking and teaching yourself, or spreading the music and mission of Vaughn Benjamin, give thanks. In this ancient order, of fully embracing Our Jah so that His Splendor showers over our lives, we make our collective oneness everlasting. When we put Jah First, We become greater than any storm, and in His Power We Stay Forever. Raise up Jah Umbrella!

Often as an artist we can get wrapped up in new styles and details. Adding this and that, mixing media ect… however there comes a moment where the act of creating wants to be effortless, or minimal in thought. In Japanese and Chinese art, there is a complexity and simplicity that comes forward by considering both positive and negative space. This happens in many forms of creating, however in my case, I wanted to breathe…

I have done Indian ink pieces in the past that were African Subjects with a “Sumi” style with traditional calligraphy brushes. Those were created in the space of 3 breaths, and if I wasn’t focused it didnt look that great.. however when done right, the sway and emotion were able to capture a swift and abstract idea of an emotion. This is an example of that older work..

” Roughing it ” Indo Style

These newer pieces are not the previous style, I call “Indo” which uses African and modern subjects in a Sumi style. These next pieces focus on nature and lean on the works of others, and traditional topics of both Chinese, and Japanese brush work. It is very relaxing and it allows the mind to be, rather than encouraging individuality in art. I hope you enjoy the following pieces, and feel free to message if something speaks to you. Because they are relatively simple to make, if one is sold I can make another that looks very similar. These are also priced low so ones can have the original for less than what I would normally charge for an original full color painting. These are priced between $50 and $200 USD. In Her High Place. Acrylic and Indian ink

Reflecting on the power of faith in Ethiopia, the common Ethiopian Woman is one of the first thoughts that comes to mind. The prayerful manner of the women and the personal relationship they have with the Most High, stands out with poi’s unique to Ethiopia.

The importance of expressing the mood meant I needed to highlight the simplicity of her complexity. The brown dress and top, was done so that it was clear that she was living her everyday life, that she wasn’t going to church or in a formal setting. It is a country rural environment, high in the hills, and being in pure white was too easy for the symbolic expression of faith. Still it was important to have the traditional Ethiopia head wrap, and the church in the background, being it is intrinsic to the Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Culture, and a part of daily life. Couple with that, is the very familiar small wooden cross around her neck. This cross is the cross that is most common, especially around children, as a way of enforcing the faith humbly, where the cross is small, easy to make and a sign of understanding of an unpretentious christianity.

The Lion and Lamb, on the Ethiopian Solomonic Seal, represents the Power and Prophecy of Iyesus Christos return as the Conquering Lion of Judah in His Kingly Character. The relationship of Ethiopia to this declaration and eventual actualization, is its own foundation in each person based on faith. In oneness, this woman represents that embracing of this holy land, the prophecies and prophets. That a Lion and Lamb mind state is native to Ethiopia and naturally would become a part of the social structure of the collective mind. Likewise the three doves, representing the Holy Trinity, are flying in the background as a further reminder of the divine unity of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit as God the Lion and Lamb through the Holy Spirit that dwells in the Heart of flesh. Both would reveal themselves in the Same Name, through the fulfillment in the personage of Qedamawi Haile Selassie. (First and Forever, the Power and Virtue of the Trinity) Who is the Conquering Lion of Judah, King of Kings, and the Root of David. Emperor of Ethiopia, Throne of Zion and Beta Israel.

In the Ethiopian highlands there are flowers all about, and because it has 13 months of sunshine, in their remarkable calendar, it felt appropriate to make different forms of sunflowers.

This piece is inspired by Neil Mangicaro of Roots Works by his new single ” Faith “. This song moved InI deeply and is focused on His Majesty and being, all that which is InI. Being the Soul’s Soul, and in this piece we express what that feels like to us. In the midst of the hustle and rain, InI’s have a different light on us, a light also within. That within the ones who know themselves, find the Emperor, and within the Emperor we find His Christ. In that we find the links of sacrifice and suffering to overcoming and conquering, we find the Power, The Haile, The Lion, and We find the Humble, The Lamb, Rastaman, that doesn’t need to seek shelter from the rain. One of things that touched I about Airman Aaron Bushnell was that he smiled while he lit himself on fire. How he stood like a solider for Jah and smiled.
