Before Auto tune, Before dancing singers there was ROOTS REGGAE, Before there was Hip Hop, before there was Reggae there was Nyabinghi. Nyabinghi and the sound of the Heart is imperative in understanding Roots Reggae and the prophetical experience that has been part of an Oral legacy handed down by Major Prophets like Isaiah and Jeremiah, and Iyesus the Christ. When speaking of Akae Beka, and previously as Midnite, in his own words, ” Isiah wasn’t an entertainer.” When looking at the difference of musicians rarely will you find one that is a voice in the wilderness that cries both warnings and insights into the realms of Jah.

Some will call his “fans” cult followers due to our love and honor of the man, Vaughn Benjamin. If Cult is short for Culture, I have no problem with that. His change of name to Akae Beka will inspire thousands to read the book of Enoch and think about the meanings and messages. He music demands ones read in order to be educated, both religious works as well as secular and to choose the right. He brings to attention the call to be ONE and unchanging in our oath to the Creator. Few reach the heights he calls us to look at in reference to who we are and can be. His coming to New Mexico is a momentous occasion and one that will bring together the Children of the King and Queen of Kings. I my short life, I have never have I seen the magnetic pull and words to bring a sound of truth so liberating that I have to be there..It is beyond a joy, his words bring peace and inspiration to that which makes I create. If my art had a sound track it would be his poetry. I and many rank him as the greatest poet that has ever lived, and though it may take refinement, when ones actually hear what he is saying no one uses words more carefully and eloquently. We get entangled into the sound of sharp and healing tones and often miss the sober and serious recognitions of the time and call he brings. The show in Taos Sunday, Dec. 16th will be historic in our common bond that Emperor Haile Selassie I has been placed in our lives to be a beacon and light, a personal call from Himself and from the four corners of the Earth. One that many have submitted to, and to be in the presence of those, is to be in the presence of Greatness. It is those who are humble enough to sit and know that on the streets, we know who is for us, we have allies, through Jah, Akae Beka across the Earth has been there in the sticks. In New Mexico, 9 Albums have been made for Midnite to Akae Beka. It is through the hard work of so many that it all comes together. Big Up and thank you to everyone who has helped and nurtured good relations. Thank Roots and Wire, Jerry and company, FifthSon Records, and Dre-Z Melodi and company ( you know who you are!). Like a camp fire in winter, there are flames that resist the cold. In this time, it takes remarkable effort to not comment on the number of things that deserve comment. When being an artist, there is an intimate part of us that is silent and quiet, because our voice is thru our art. I meditate using art and tap into socially responsible subjects and issues, mindful that people need a healing. When creating, making art for a few is short sighted, making art for all including yourself is the big picture. When painting, I have multiple techniques and love combining styles, in which I will share some examples, beyond that is the effort into telling a story that in its repetition only grows. Part of that is making it so each inch is its own painting, there is a desire to make composition complete in micro ways. When viewing the art, choose any corner or piece of a painting and see that it is its own abstract piece. The healing is in the intention and the colors, it is in the desire to have order and chaos exist in a manner of harmony and contrast.

There are some paintings I cannot show at this point because they are being used for some great future Albums that are for a number of great musicians. It won’t be long, and there are some really cool pieces that are under wraps. Here are some of the newest works. As the seasons change and winter approaches the landscapes reformat in many ways. In a mediation and in a change I decided to paint with Oils and to see how the technique was comforting to the desire to have more time. When working with Oil paint, I found certain relief I haven’t found from any other medium, that relief was that I didn’t have to rush, before it dried. I wasn’t racing against time, and it opened up another mind warp.

I like moving quick, I think we all do, but when we are forced to slow down, then we can see what can be appreciated subtly. I also saw how a joy-ting (painting) can change as it dries and comes into self. I also had a few laughs about how fragile an oil painting is, and that one has to be careful not to make a smeary mess. I also wanted to only work with primary colors in order to really get to know the moods of oils. I have many colors but won’t open them till I understand how to make my own variations from the primary. It is about earning it, I guess, kinda like spray cans, you don’t get the outline cap till you master the stock cap. That way you will be only better when you have the options and high caliber arsenal. I hope you enjoy the series.

Today is the 88th Anniversary of the most important day in History. Many do not know about this day, and it is a joy for Rastafari across the Earth. Nov. 2nd 1930 marked a shift that was seen to come and was a moment of the accumulation of the ages. We have watched the Spiritual nature of man develop and reveal itself throughout time, however that nature in fullness had never been seen on the Throne of Zion and Leadership exalted in the way that confirmed and pivoted the reality of God in Man and Woman Internationally. Upon this pronouncement which was internationally witnessed and public, Emperor Haile Selassie I and Empress Asfaw Menen were Crowned, King and Queen of Kings, That He is the Conquering Lion of Judah and the Earth would know, That This Ethiopian by Divine Right, Davidic Protocol, and in unity with Ethiopia that they are one and are Earth’s Rightful Ruler. Before this moment, no African Leader had been respected internationally, this was the beginning of a Mind State that would rebuild a broken world. First by Standing by the Traditions of Ethiopian Sovereignty as pronounced by the Scriptures in Her personnel relationship the One Creator. 2nd. By Crowning a Man and Woman at the same time to represent God in Flesh, which had not been done in any Coronation any where. 3. Reshaping Religious thought and Colonial perceptions founded on the Faith of Right and Wrong being inherit in Our desire to develop. 4. Creating a collective vision of World where international human rights would usher in the end of colonial exploits. 5. Promoted and pushed Education in order to be self sufficient and to off shoot the centuries of poverty of mind and nations by vigilantly promoting and creating schools and universities all over the planet. 11. To Give Name to a people who had been robbed of our homeland and a face to a Father of the Fatherless, and Mother to the Motherless, Those people are called Rastafari, and truly all those who wish to see the Face of God. 12. It is a joy to present the newest works, they have been an especially vibrant experience. Sometimes they take much longer and others much shorter. No matter, an artists listens to the painting in order to fully be present and in confidence of what they are creating to be true to self. In InI case “self” is Us, and that is why this is called ” Soulful Reminisces. ”

I have to remember many of you reading haven’t personally met me, and it seems funny when I meet people who don’t know my life is art. Its like they haven’t heard me speak and they think they know me…To the point, Love is Life, Life is Art, Art is Revolution, Revolution is what you make it…but you will come to where you began..and will hopefully remember who you really are. I have been painting for longer than I can remember and it is inborn. I work everyday on it, and it takes hours of stillness and thought on top of technique to create good art. Love and sacrifice are intertwined, if you won’t suffer for it and work hard you don’t really love it. Art has been an amazing journey for InI, and it Itinues to become Joy-tings more than Pain-tings, it has also opened up many ways of thinking about life differently.

1. Important lesson art has taught InI: Babylon wants us to compete, and to conform to their ideas of beauty as well as detail, they are obsessed with details, to be a true artist, we have to stop creating for anyone other than Our Highest Vision of The Creator. This means simply, that is about doing what you never thought you could in contrast to making something that is a replica of something else. It means that your not trying to make the most photo real piece, that you aren’t as concerned about exacts, you allow art to be free. You don’t want to be someone else, you aren’t competing with anyone.

2. Once we have stopped competing are you ready to make art that has a place in substance and its form is awkward. How ok are you with awkward…? Art makes ones comfortable and uncomfortable, it is an experience where the process is more awkward that not, being that the finished product took many phases of not being complete before one can get to that place of saying “yes”. It that process sometimes the message and substance trumps the visual attractiveness that ones would like to see when they are relaxing. What about when it doesn’t matter, and all that matters is the message, as an artist can you be uncomfortable and still comfortable in a job well done in its delivery. Telling the story well is more important than the cameras used to film it…

3. Being Free means being free! it also means that not knowing is ok, and that having faith that the answers will come in time is crucial. As Sound is the Father of Music so are The Vibrations the Mother of art. Sound and Vibrations do not have a responsibility to be harmonious to you, they do not have to have a rational. It is up to us to see what is somewhat understandable and be a vehicle of the voice of the erratic. Art is about liberation and when it comes to the methods, being free mentally allows one to take art to a spiritual level. To be able to allow the Most High to speak to you through your meditation and openness. Allowing oneself to be a vessel and ear of Jah, and to be a soulful dreamcatcher. Making room for waves and patterns that correspond to a sense of identity that is rich and hidden deep below a surface. When you get there, it is a bountiful place with eyes of ancestors peering at you from a canvas that has always stared from within, but now, it is there for the world to stare at and consider its expression.

In a blessed meditation: Knowledge increases, in this time more it seems is given than ever. We are in a time where the devil shows himself both as violent and savage and shrewd and scientific.
